An Overwolf companion app that turns live matches in 14 games into tasks, levels and rewards

Blokkplay is a desktop companion app that reads live game events while people play, in 14 games. We built the Overwolf app, the web dashboard, the API, and the subscription contracts the client later took to mainnet.

The challenge

Each game reports live events in its own format, so every game needed its own handler and its own rules for what counts as progress.

The app had to run beside the game on Overwolf, start with it and stay out of the way while people play.

Our approach

Live game events, read while people play

The Overwolf app reads live events in each game, and the server checks them against that game's task rules, leaving out practice and non-live play.

One dashboard, two places

The same Next.js app runs on the web and inside the Overwolf desktop window, so players see one profile everywhere.

Subscriptions on two rails

Plans are billed through Stripe on the web and Tebex inside Overwolf. We also built subscription contracts and an indexer, which the client took to mainnet.

What we built

  • An Overwolf desktop and in-game app that starts with the game.
  • Tasks across 3 difficulty levels per game, levels, seasons and weekly leaderboard rewards.
  • A web dashboard and an admin console for users, rewards, seasons and subscriptions.
  • Referrals, badges and linked Google, Discord, Twitch and X accounts.
  • Subscription contracts with an indexer, and plan billing through Stripe and Tebex.

Services behind this work

Security and quality

  • Game events are checked on the server against each game's task rules before progress counts.
  • Stripe payments are confirmed by verified webhooks before a plan starts, and a daily job ends lapsed plans.

Outcome

Blokkplay is live on Overwolf, with the dashboard and API serving players across 14 games.

The client runs it for the Australian market.
